When Noah Smith founded Big Family Movers in 2001, he wanted to build a company that expressed the values he had grown up with in Oakland: empathy, integrity, unity, and respect. Those values are still at the heart of everything we do today.

Why The Elephants?

Our logo was born from a simple idea: movers should be seen as skilled professionals, not just hired muscle. To us, the elephant represents wisdom, intelligence, and strength — qualities we bring to every move we make. The logo was designed by Noah and brought to life by a Berkeley graffiti legend. It's been making people smile — and communicating strength, intelligence, and trust — ever since.

Meet Noah Smith, Founder & Owner

Noah Smith grew up in North Oakland, moving frequently before starting his professional moving career at 21. After studying Urban Studies in New York, he returned to Oakland to launch Big Family Movers in 2001 with a focus on respect and community care.

For 35 years, Noah has remained dedicated to providing reliable moving services, emphasizing integrity and customer trust. His commitment is reflected in every move Big Family Movers handles.
